There's a certain way people provide the recipe for a dish that doesn't require scales and precision- stick a spoon in it and see if it stands up, or boil until your authority has positively been established. If this album was a cookbook you might find some southern ingredients, some old world technique, a dash of San Antone, and you'd be sure there'd be some meandering prose in the place of instructions. Recordings are like vats of stew that never cool off and spoil. Quicker than a microwave, just hit play and you got a low heat, a steady simmer and nowhere to be for awhile. Another way to look at it is that this album is more about building a kitchen than the dishes that roll through. Building up the studio so we could serve it up in our own manner. Take the time to get those moments where the flavors meld just right and mojo wafts up like steam. Bottle that Rare Magic.
